Coping with Anxiety

Over the years, we have seen many groomers crippled with anxiety or overwhelmed with stress. Fortunately, we have many community platforms to help with this. LifelineBeyond Blue, Headspace, just to name a few.

Many groomers will often take home conflict from a staff member or client. We also deal with difficult animal welfare situations and a host of other daily stresses. This stress can manifest in our bodies, and we need to give this stress the opportunity to leave our bodies.

So, what can we do to slow down or stop the anxiety monster from entering our territory?

We can eat well, drink water regularly, keep good sleeping patterns and exercise. But what happens when this is not enough?

We can do all the above, as well as:

  • Light a candle

  • Listen to music

  • Reduce our caffeine intake

  • Write down what is on our minds in order to gain clarity

  • Spend time with friends

  • Laugh

  • Take a supplement

  • Talk to health professionals

  • Practise mindfulness

  • Take a Yoga class

  • Learn to say no

  • Breath, or

  • Cuddle our doggies!

  • Any combination of the above (see below ♥)

There are many things we can and should do to look after our body, mind, and spirit. This is a special job, one that takes as much as it gives at times. Be your best, enjoy what you do and take time for yourself. If you haven’t watched the interview about holding stress with Nat and Dr Natalie Bird yet, set aside 20 minutes to do so tonight!
