Not a Dog to be Seen!

What to do when it’s quiet…

There are down months in the grooming industry. Traditionally in Australia it is May, June and July that are quieter months. A new business may find it difficult to fill appointments in these months.

Below is a list of valuable ways to use this down-time

  • If you have an existing business, it is time to get a re-booking system in place

  • Make sure to re-book every client who comes through your door

  • Offer incentives to regular clients

  • Run specials on popular breeds in low months

  • Take a holiday or encourage staff to take a break

  • Use this time to up-skill. Let your clients know you are closed for a day so you can attend a seminar

  • Network with other groomers – you may have a range of complementary skills and be able to work together?

  • Deep clean your shop, tools and equipment

  • Re-model your shop! There are many budget friendly ways to do this. Painting, reorganising shelving and displays etc

  • Update your social media - schedule posts on Facebook - learn how to use Canva - do a Social Media course online

  • Spend time at the local park talking to people

  • Use the local council; often they have support programs for small business

Always watch your bottom line but do not panic on quiet days. Rather, focus quarter to quarter for a clear picture of how your business is running.
