Tick Tock Influencer

Hi Barb, I feel like I take too long with my full grooms. How can I get quicker? I have been grooming for almost a year now, but I still feel slow.

Oh, darling! What a fabulous question you've tossed my way, and I just love your enthusiasm to amp up that efficiency!

But before we dive into the time-tinkering, let’s take a little mo’ to smell the sticky willies ~ a new flower I’ve come across in my most recent dip into the world of hat decorating. Think back to when you first started and I’d bet my best bloomers that you have actually gotten quicker at your full grooms. So instead of saying “I’m too slow” or “I take too long,” let’s turn that around and say, “I’ve gotten faster since I started, and I’m just warming up!” Remember, honey, our minds love a little pep talk instead of a ‘tsk tsk’—nobody’s got time for that!

Now, let’s chat about your pace, because routine is like a good pair of kitten heels—absolutely essential! Some groomers prefer to clip first and then scissor, while others work bum, tum to gum (rear to front). Why not mix it up and find your groove? Once you lock down that routine, you’ll be completing all your full grooms toot-sweet!

And let’s not forget prep work, because it will be your best friend! I know, I know, when you’re pre-clipping, doing that second shampoo, or getting the dog all dried off, the tick tock of the shop clock can feel like poppycock. But darling, trust me, that time you spend saves you more time later on with your clippers and scissors! It’s like I always say—time spent prepping is time saved for more important things - like my crochet club, should you be interested.

Lastly, each pooch is a unique little snowflake—in sass, shape, sense and style. Just as surgeons adjust for every procedure, so too should we adapt our approach for each dog. Not to say our work’s quite the same, but let’s keep that between us; no need to ruffle feathers in the medical world!

Thanks for reaching out, and keep shining like the star you are!

Barb-bye for now, and do let me know about crochet club!
