ADVANCED GROOMING TUTORIALS
Introduction to the Trim
Although these trims are thought by many to be interchangeable, the Scandinavian Trim would be a much tighter, more stylized version of the Second Puppy Trim.
The trim was created by Swedish and Norwegian show groomers in the 1970s. It is a one-size-fits-all cut, and the most common one in all sizes for shows throughout Europe. It is allowed for adult poodles to be shown in the FCI (Federation Cynologique Internationale) countries.
To create a Scandinavian Trim, or Second Puppy Trim, the face, throat, belly, feet and the base of the tail are shaved one to three days before a show to achieve a nice smooth appearance of the shaved areas. The hair on the head is left to form a topknot. The rest of the trim gives a very stylized appearance to the poodle and one that is very popular.
Although the basic lines of the Scandinavian and Second Puppy trims are very similar, our friends in Scandinavia would have much tighter and more dramatic lines on their trims than most Second Puppy trims being shown in the UK and Europe. How stylized you want your trim is up to you, but the basic lines are all the same.
