Rough Collie

Double coated breeds can be a big job. Regular grooming on these breeds is a must. Make sure you have plenty of time and assistance if you need it. We recommend a Collie like Amara come in every 6-8 weeks. It is easier on the dog and the groomer!

The Bath

KEY POINTS

  • Wetting the coat down and shampooing thoroughly to properly clean the coat is the first step to preparing for the de-shed. The cleaner the coat, the better finish will be.

  • Conditioning the coat is the next step for releasing of the hair. This step will not only release dead and tangled hair, but it will also assist in the drying process. Conditioned hair beads off water.

The Dry

KEY POINTS

  • Nicole’s techniques are key here: tool choice, rhythmic brushing and separating the hair makes the next step easier.

The Groomout, Feet and Underline

KEY POINTS

  • If a double coated dog is washed correctly and then completely dried using this method will make brushing easier, most of the hair will just easily comb out. This takes time and patients. Give your dog a break if he needs it.

  • The final touches! How to scissor in a Collies feet, feathers, underline, and pants. Always follow the owner’s instruction.
