5. Bathing at Home Part 2 - The Process

The Bathing Process

Step 1: Secure Your Dog

Place your dog in the bath and use a grooming noose to secure them in place. This ensures your dog won't move around during the bath, but never leave your dog unattended in the bath.

Step 2: Wet Down Your Dog

Use a handheld showerhead or container to wet your dog's coat thoroughly. Start by wetting their back, head, and ears. Be gentle, especially around the face.

Step 3: Apply Shampoo

Apply the shampoo to your dog's coat. You don't need a lot; the key is to have the right dilution. Gently massage the shampoo into their coat, working it through to create a lather.

Step 4: Target Hard-to-Reach Areas

Pay special attention to areas that can be difficult to clean, such as behind the ears, under the tail, and between the toes. Use a diluted shampoo to reach these areas.

Step 5: Rinse Thoroughly

Rinse your dog thoroughly with tepid water. Make sure all shampoo is completely washed out. Check for any suds or residue, especially in hidden areas like under the chest and legs.

Step 6: Repeat Shampoo and Rinse

If necessary, repeat the shampoo and rinse steps to ensure your dog is thoroughly clean. Some areas may require extra attention.

Step 7: Apply Conditioner

Apply conditioner to your dog's coat. Massage the conditioner in, and ensure it reaches the skin.

Step 8: Final Rinse

Rinse your dog one last time to remove all the conditioner. Ensure there are no suds or residue left in the coat.

Step 9: Check for Cleanliness

After the final rinse, run your hands through your dog's coat to make sure it feels clean and there are no suds or residues left.
